This in-depth LIVE class rewards you with a personal experience of what it's like to work as a Visual Development Artist in the Animation industry. You will learn the fundamentals of the job and gain a portfolio to support the role. Visual Development is about being able to design and communicate ideas from a story.
Practice essential visual decision-making techniques, like ideation, exploration, and execution. Plus familiarize yourself with industry-standard painting techniques for efficient work-flows. This live course is geared towards developing an approach to designing characters, props, and environments using essential techniques like composition, lighting, and atmosphere for a final Key Image.

Learn Rapid-Viz to transfer the best ideas from your head and onto the screen as fast as possible. Apply concepts like visual clarity and value with thumbnails to present ideas. Sketching should be fun, fast, and most importantly build upon itself to ensure a greater end product.
STORY & MOOD BOARDS
To create incredible artwork, you'll need to develop the look and feel of your story and present it to Art Directors through Mood Boards. By working through a variety of themes with a story planner, you will unlock your imagination and lay the foundation for your artwork.
COMPOSITION & STRUCTURE
Become the camera in your story by learning the art of Cinematography. Direct the viewer's focus through the three values method, rules of composition, and shape order to keep your images readable and maintain clarity.
COLOR & MATERIALS
With Adobe Photoshop, learn Digital Painting basics and Color Theory to create vivid, eye-popping designs. Then apply Blending Modes, Adjustment Layers, and texturing to push your art to the next level.
LIGHTING & ATMOSPHERE
Gain on-the-job insight into lighting specifics such as exposure and atmosphere in your artwork. Study photo reference, light sources, and apply the essential time of day techniques to achieve beautiful scenes.

Quintin Puebla is a visual development artist with almost a decade of experience in the entertainment industry and is currently in development on Nickelodeon's new series, Big Nate. His past projects include Green Eggs and Ham and Rocketeer, along with world-renowned clients such as Disney, Warner Bros, Honda, and Scientific Games. He specializes in early development, color keys, background design, and story illustration.
When he isn't hunched over a computer, Quintin enjoys going on Plein air adventures and exploring various traditional mediums.
